An age old question...

.
..one that has been asked hundreds of times before I’m sure, but
WHY exactly do we celebrate birthdays?

I don’t get it. Yes, there is the fact that it sometimes serves as a perfect excuse to hang out and have fun, but that besides…

I’d rather not be on the receiving end of obligatory wishes. If anyone wanted to let me know they earnestly cared about me, there are better ways I’m sure. One particular day throughout a year just to make some one feel special, does that not strike you as somewhat silly?

Anyhow, I just asked around and the responses seem interesting, so figured I'd post them along with this post...

Amana: Because we want presents hihi

Hawwa: Because we’re stupid… and we want to make our relatives and friends happy

Rani: I love my birthday, I don’t know why though… It’s like... My b’day!!!! Gimme presents!!! :P

Faaf: Because we’re born in a place where not doing it is wrong… I don’t know how to put it... because everybody does it? And everybody obviously does what everybody does…

Ayu: Dunno… you tell me

Hammi: Actually is started in the dark ages, not sure which period… life expectancy used to be very short those days so every year that passed by was considered a huge accomplishment and that’s why they started celebrating…

Sensodain: Because we see that people do it all the time. People who started it thought well and exploited people because there was money in it…. They sure did that well

Yeth: So that we are sure we are still young enough to have kids

Shimad: Same reason they played music while the titanic was going down, same reason they give out oxygen masks on airplanes while you crash at 500 miles per hour… there is nothing to celebrate in real life, the celebration itself is the only good thing

Andhu: I guess it’s just because it’s the day we were born
.

its totally pointless. if you wanted to celebrate life, why not LIVE instead of just existing?

pointless to the point of there being no point to make a point against it. :@

i find no reason in wishing people but, if its about presents, then it is okay i suppose

humans celebrate birthdays because we are so full of ourselves...

Becux if we never celebrate anything then life wud be dull. We need reason to make a fuss. We need reason to celebrate sometimes. We all like to feel special. Our birthday gives us reason for it to be all about US. For many people, this is the ONLY day they ever stop & acknowledge themselves. (sometimes not even then)

an xcuse we can use to get presents or have a party/get together etc. or if u wanna think differently, how about being thankful that uve lived that long.(u cant celebrate that everyday now can u? that would be jes silly.hehe)or maybe a day for you to remember all those fun times you had on that very same day years back. jes how different its been and how much the day and you have changed. and probably cos we've been brought up in such a way that now that day jes makes us a bit happier than the rest of the days? u pick.

It's something like saying "Alkhamdhulillahi" everytime we sneeze.
It's the mindframe we were brought up in. Not to specifically show we care or anything.
Not doing it just feels.. wrong? Or we just do it automatically. Instinct is the word!
I think.

Does that make no-sense or is it just me?
