Old really IS Gold.

.
Old cameras, for one.
Nothing beats...
the satisfying sound of the film rolling after you click. Looking at the negatives, actually having them. The process of rolling the film, adjusting the settings manually on a mechanical camera. Or even the prospect of, one day, being able to develop the negatives in your own dark room... etc etc. Man... and the end result, if not anything else. It's so much more rewarding to see good photos turn up.

As "impractical" as most people think film photography is, I love it... so much so that digital SLRs seem, let's say, a LOT less pleasing. It's an art.

But then they still cost an arm and a leg...
I have time though, patience is all it takes sometimes ei?
Can hardly wait to earn myself a good old oldie though

Thanks alot hammi btw, for letting me borrow your oldie camera. Sure means alot. This gushy blog post is all because I just developed the colour film, hehe

Man I can't wait to see how the B&W turned out.
You can get a mamiya on ebay for about $400. The cameras are actually much cheaper than digital ones and you can get expired film pretty cheap too. It's the developing, especially in a shitty place like malé that makes it so bloody expensive. Not to mention having to ship in the "cheap" film which just about cancels out the cheapness.

aesha: you can do star trails with any camera that can do exposures long enough to capture still stars. The trails are usually done in post processing by combining a crap load of photos of the same scene throughout the night.

You know, its kind of funny the way we love these cameras for the flaws their creators hated.
